Pirates

I still don't understand why nothing has been done to prevent these Somali Pirates from boarding the huge ships. I mean, if shipping companies are willing to pay millions in ransom money, why don't they hire armed security groups with heavy machine guns (a la Coast Guard) to blow them out of the water? I saw a video of those pirates; they ride around in dinghies!
